Cerilliant introduces new Snap-N-Spike internal standards of nicotine metabolites

Jan. 23, 2014

Cerilliant has introduced two new Certified Spiking Solutions of nicotine metabolites anabasine-D4 HCl and trans-3’-Hydroxycotinine-D3 at concentrations of 100 µg/mL in methanol. These solution standards can be used as internal standards spiked into patient samples or in isotope dilution methods for quantification of anabasine and 3-hydroxycotinine levels in nicotine screening and other clinical or diagnostic testing applications by GC/MS, LC/MS, or LC-MS/MS.

Tobacco use represents the largest preventable health hazard in the United States. Routine screening of nicotine biomarkers in individuals who use tobacco products may be inevitable as greater portions of the population obtain health insurance through state exchanges and more businesses adopt no-tobacco policies.

“As more laboratories are receiving calls to test for nicotine and nicotine metabolites, the demand for fully characterized, highly pure Certified Reference Materials increases,” comments Mitzi Rettinger, Vice President of Cerilliant. “These new internal standards are produced to the highest industry guidelines in our Snap-N-Spike format that maximizes laboratory throughput.”

Cerilliant offers Snap-N-Spike Certified Reference Materials (CRMs) of the major tobacco alkaloids, metabolites, and nitrosamines including NNN, NNK, NNAL, and NAB in addition to native and stable labeled internal standards of nicotine, cotinine, nornicotine, trans-3’ hydroxycotinine, and anabasine. These standards are suitable for clinical toxicology, clinical and diagnostic testing, nicotine screening, and environmental monitoring applications. Each CRM from Cerilliant is supported by a comprehensive Certificate of Analysis, which provides all analytical data from full neat material characterization and solution standard verification to uncertainty and traceability information to meet laboratory regulatory requirements.
