Pipette calibration system

The PCS® Pipette Calibration System provides a fast and convenient method for measuring the accuracy and precision of dispensed volumes. The system can be used to efficiently ensure pipette and operator performance throughout the year—not just at predetermined calibration cycle times. It also can be used as a training tool, instantly providing the user with feedback on accuracy and precision performance. The system minimizes calibration turnaround time, allows the pipettes to remain in the lab, and provides increased confidence in calibration results. It is compliant with ISO 8655, CAP, and CLIA guidelines and produces measurements that are traceable to the International System of Units (SI).

Vitamin D assay

A new 25-OH Vitamin D Assay has been introduced, a colorimetric solid phase enzyme-linked immunosorbent ELISA Kit, which allows the quantitative determination of 25-OH vitamin D covering a measuring range of 4 to 130 ng/mL and analytical sensitivity of 2.3 ng/mL. This test shows good reproducibility with an intra-assay precision of 5.6% and an inter-assay precision of 10.8%. Benefits of the assay include ready-to-use reagents, a total assay time of less than two hours, and a straightforward procedure for release of vitamin D (no precipitation or centrifugation). It is for research use only—not for use in diagnostic procedures.

Calibration verification/linearity

The Audit® MicroCV™ Procalcitonin Linearity Set for use with B•R•A•H•M•S PCT sensitive Kryptor has five levels of linearity material to monitor the test system’s reportable range, as defined by the manufacturer. Packaged as 5 x 1 mL, this lyophilized product has a shelf life of two years and an open vial stability of 24 hours when stored at 2°C to 8°C.  AUDITOR™ QC, a data reduction program, is offered free to customers. This service is a group of Internet based tools that perform statistical analysis calculations on the linearity data supplied by the lab and provides the end user peer group comparison graphs that may be printed or stored for future use. Additional products offered include Assayed Procalcitonin Daily Quality Control Materials and Procalcitonion Method Validation kits.

A new dimension of control

With Easypet 3, pipetting speed is controlled with the tips of your fingers. The powerful motor delivers efficient performance to speed up large volume pipetting and can be used with all types of serological pipettes from volumes of 0.1 to 100 mL. The speed adjustment also enables an optimized gravity drain option for easy dispensing of liquid without splashing. It is lightweight, well-balanced, and ergonomically designed to sit comfortably in your hand, allowing for fatigue-free pipetting at an angle ideal for use within laminar flow cabinets. The backlit LEDs provide optical feedback of remaining battery life. Operation is still possible during recharging.

Non-instrumented MDx test

FDA 510(k) clearance has been received for the sale in the U.S. and Europe of Quidel’s non-instrumented molecular diagnostic test, the AmpliVue C. difficile Assay, for the detection of toxigenic Clostridium difficile bacterial DNA. Detection of the pathogen is achieved using a hand-held, fully contained cassette that combines isothermal Helicase Dependent Amplification (HDA) with its lateral flow detection technology. The assay enables laboratories to offer a fast and sensitive result generated by molecular methods using actual kit components, without the need to purchase and maintain expensive capital equipment. The assay also requires no upfront nucleic acid extraction step.
