New salmonella outbreak

May 27, 2025

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) posted a warning regarding a new outbreak of salmonella.

Currently, there have been 26 confirmed cases among 15 U.S. states. Nobody has died, but there have been nine hospitalizations. The CDC attributes the outbreak to whole cucumbers that “were grown by Bedner Growers Inc. and distributed by Fresh Start Produce Sales, Inc. between April 29, 2025, and May 19, 2025.”

The CDC advises people to throw away any cucumbers that were grown by Bedner Growers or Fresh Start Produce Sales, Inc., or if they are not sure who they were grown by. They also warn people to ask restaurants where the cucumbers they serve are from and to “wash surfaces and items that may have touched the cucumbers using hot soapy water or a dishwasher.”
