CDC recommends Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for adolescents

May 13, 2021

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommended the use of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine in adolescents who are between 12 and 15 years old, paving the way for providers to begin vaccinating this age group.

The move follows the advice of the agency’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), which endorsed the safety and effectiveness of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine and its use in 12- through 15-year-old adolescents.

The FDA issued an emergency use authorization (EUA) for administering the vaccine to this age group on Monday.
