New study says measles could become endemic again

June 12, 2025

As of June 6, 1,168 measles cases and 17 outbreaks have been confirmed in 33 U.S. states and New York City. 95% of cases are in unvaccinated individuals and those who do not know their vaccination status.

A recent study published in JAMA found a significant decline in measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccines in children from 2019-2024.

The study says, “If vaccination rates continue to decline, measles is likely to return to endemic levels in the US.”
