Visit AABB for more information.

The deadline to submit comments to guide updates to two upcoming editions of AABB standards is Wednesday, Jan. 17.

AABB’s Patient Blood Management Standards Committee is currently seeking feedback to shape updates to the draft fifth edition of Standards for a Patient Blood Management Program and AABB’s Perioperative Standards Committee is accepting comments to guide revisions to the draft 11th edition of Standards for Perioperative Autologous Blood Collection and Administration.

Individuals interested in submitting comments should review the current fourth edition of Standards for a Patient Blood Management Program and 10th edition of Standards for Perioperative Autologous Blood Collection and Administration. Those without access to the current standards may contact AABB to request a complimentary two-week trial.

When providing feedback, commenters should identify the current standard by its number at the beginning of their comments, especially if commenting on more than one standard. The committees also encourage commenters to provide alternative wording if they think it would improve the clarity of a standard. Finally, those who agree or disagree with a current standard should state a reason or submit data to support their viewpoint.

After the close of the comment period, the respective committees will meet to review feedback and draft and finalize the proposed fifth and 11th editions. AABB will continue to hold the 60-day open comment period following the release of the proposed standards.
