The FDA has been flexing its muscles

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued two controversial recommendations: that restrictions on the prescription of the most common narcotic painkillers be significantly tightened, and that partially hydrogenated oils (trans fats) be banned from the American food supply unless their safety can be proved in individual cases.
