Advanced cardiac organoids for toxicity testing: 3D Ready Cardioid Supplement Kit to launch in Fall 2026

The upcoming 3D Ready Cardioid Supplement Kits, developed through a collaboration between Molecular Devices and HeartBeat.bio, aim to provide standardized, scalable cardiac organoids for toxicity testing, addressing current limitations in variability and complexity.

The 3D Ready Cardioid Supplement Kit, the first commercial offering resulting from the collaboration of Molecular Devices, LLC., a Danaher company, and HeartBeat.bio, is expected to be available in the fall, according to an announcement.

Combining HeartBeat.bio's expertise in cardiac organoid biology with Molecular Devices' capabilities in cellular automation, detection and imaging platforms, and scalable workflow integration, the kits help researchers generate physiologically relevant cardiac organoids for toxicity testing and safety assessment. Commercial availability is planned for Fall 2026, with applications for an early-access program now open.

Researchers need more predictive human cardiac models to identify potential safety risks earlier, but broader adoption of cardiac organoids has been limited by variability, complex production methods, and difficulty scaling workflows. The 3D Ready Cardioid Supplement Kit addresses these barriers with a standardized approach for generating functional, beating cardiac organoids from human induced pluripotent stem cells, supporting both manual and automated workflows.

The portfolio includes two options. The single-lineage Cardioid kit generates cardiomyocyte-only cardiac organoids for cardiac biology and toxicity studies, while the tri-lineage Cardioid kit produces cardiac organoids containing cardiomyocytes, endothelial cells, and fibroblasts, enabling investigation of fibrosis, chronic toxicity, and other mechanisms of cardiac toxicity. Both formats produce functional cardiac organoids with chamber architecture and support scalable research workflows.
