The College of American Pathologists (CAP) has modified 14 of its Cancer Protocols to include World Health Organization (WHO) classification updates, precision medicine advancements, and recommendations from leading standard-setting organizations. Key revisions are reported in a CAP press release.

Breast cancer biomarker reporting and molecular testing for gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) are impacted by these updates. For example, CAP now requires the Breast Phyllodes Tumor protocol when reporting malignant phyllodes tumors. Changes were also made to the reporting criteria for estrogen receptor (ER), progesterone receptor (PgR), and HER2 biomarkers. GIST molecular testing and reporting protocols were expanded, according to CAP. The protocols include new options for NTRK fusion gene analysis, reporting for GISTs across all anatomic sites, and improved KIT and PDGFRA biomarker testing and reporting.
