FDA appoints new leadership, including first Deputy Commissioner for Technology and AI
The FDA has appointed new leaders across various centers, including the first Deputy Commissioner for Technology and AI, highlighting a strategic move towards innovation and public health advancement.
New U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) leadership has been chosen for roles spanning across Technology and Artificial Intelligence, the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER), the Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research (CBER), and the Center for Tobacco Products (CTP), according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).
The Deputy Commissioner for Technology and Artificial Intelligence role is a first for the FDA. Jared Seehafer, M.S., was chosen for the position because of his 20 years of expertise. Seehafer will be responsible for establishing agency-wide strategies regarding technology, software, and AI.
Additional leadership changes are as follows:
Michael Davis, M.D., Ph.D., will lead the CDER as Director
Karim Mikhail, B.Pharm, MSc will be Director of CBER
The Director of the Center for Tobacco Products (CTP) is now Bret Koplow, Ph.D., J.D.
Davis, Mikhail, and Koplow are all stepping up after serving as Acting Directors of their respected departments. HHS commented, “With these leadership selections, FDA is moving forward with a clear focus on advancing its public health priorities and delivering results for the American people.”
