All University of Washington Medical Laboratory Science Program undergraduate students in their senior-year clinical rotations will have their tuition covered thanks to a generous gift from an anonymous donor. UW shared the news on December 1.

According to UW, the gift will total more than $50 million and will be distributed every year for the next 50 years. Students and professors expressed their gratitude for the donor in a press release. One student emphasized how hard it is to work a job to pay tuition while doing clinical rotations for 40 hours a week and studying. Students will no longer have to worry about covering tuition during their senior-year clinical rotations. The university expects the gift to help them grow the program to 100 students. UW noted that there are only two baccalaureate-level medical science programs in the state of Washington. This gift will also help combat staffing shortages burdening laboratories.
