Five Eyes agencies urge organizations to prepare for AI-driven cyber threats

The Five Eyes cybersecurity agencies have issued a joint statement emphasizing the importance of integrating AI into cybersecurity strategies to enhance defense while addressing emerging threats. They call on industry leaders to assess risks, update protocols, and leverage AI for security responses, stressing that preparedness and adaptability are crucial in the evolving threat landscape.

Leadership from the Five Eyes cybersecurity agencies have published a joint statement regarding artificial intelligence (AI) and its impact on cybersecurity.

The experts first emphasized that AI will benefit cyber defense strategies but will also strengthen cyber threats. The statement serves as a call to action for industry leaders, not just IT, to prepare now.

Key actions recommended for leadership are to evaluate their businesses’ risk and readiness, focus on core cybersecurity protocols, equip cyber leaders with the right resources, and continuously survey emerging threats and guidelines. It is noted in the statement that defense strategies should be evolving with AI systems and should not rely on only one solution or technology. Access to systems should be monitored and systems should be updated and supported. The leaders also recommended utilizing AI for security practices and response.

The Five Eyes leaders stressed that cyber incidents will occur, but preparedness is key to mitigating the effects. They said, “Success will come from getting the basics right, acting quickly, and integrating cyber security into core business strategy. Those that do not will face growing operational and strategic disadvantage.”
