CISA calls for enhanced cyber defense, launches CI Fortify

CISA's CI Fortify initiative urges critical infrastructure sectors, including healthcare, to improve cyber defenses by isolating critical systems and preparing recovery plans to mitigate future disruptions.

The U.S. Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) has published a call to action for critical infrastructure operators, including the healthcare sector, to boost cyber defense and planning. This initiative is called CI Fortify.

CI Fortify is asking leaders to focus on two areas:

  • Isolation: Name critical systems and “isolate” them from other networks in the event of “a degraded communications environment.” This will prevent a total shutdown. Leaders can prepare now by developing operations plans and making sure these systems have supporting infrastructure.
  • Recovery: Focus on backing up important files and have a plan for if any other steps fall through.

CISA is working on updating guidelines regarding these steps. They emphasize that preparing now will lessen the negative effects of future disruptions/incidents.
