Infants remove HPV from their bodies

May 23, 2025

A new study shows that babies who develop human papillomavirus (HPV) remove the illness from their bodies before they are six months old, according to a Université de Montréal release.

When this happens, there is little risk of the virus reappearing. The study was led by Helen Trottier and followed 422 pregnant women with HPV. Each baby “in the cohort who contracted HPV had eliminated the virus by the age of two.”

The study is published in the Journal of Infectious Diseases.
