Data from 60 countries is included in the report. WHO found “patterns of both overuse and low access to antibiotics.” Additional findings include:
·18 per 1000 people reported daily antibiotic use “based on a median of 18.3 defined daily doses per 1000 inhabitants per day (DID).”
·Many countries are still using more Watch antibiotics.
·A handful of low- and middle-income countries, territories and areas (CTAs) are not using (or using little Reserve antibiotics.
WHO announced they are helping countries monitor antibiotic use and are offering “an online course to improve measurement, understanding and use of data on antibiotic use to strengthen capacity in CTAs.” They call for improved access to antibiotics and standard use of Access antibiotics.
