FDA opens nominations for advisory committee members to enhance public and scientific input

In an effort to enhance its advisory committees, the FDA is seeking qualified professionals and consumer representatives across multiple specialties, including oncology and medical devices. Nominations are open through November 2026, emphasizing inclusivity and expertise.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration recently launched an initiative to recruit new advisory committee members. The goal of this action is to add a broader range of qualified voices and perspectives to its committees and increase participation, according to an announcement.

Specifically, the FDA is looking for qualified scientific, technical, and professional voting members across all committees that have vacancies or are expected to have vacancies. They’re also requesting nominations for consumer representatives who will bring the public’s voice to the committees.

Some of the areas of expertise the committees are looking for span oncology, cardiovascular medicine, neurology, genetics, medical devices, and more. Interested parties can apply through the centralized FDA Advisory Committee Membership Nomination application portal.

Nominations are due by November 15, 2026, for consumer representative positions. Nominations for scientific, technical, professional, and other voting-member positions are due November 30. Qualification requirements can be found on the FDA’s website.
