Investing in rural health: More than $423 Million allocated to boost rural healthcare in Louisiana, Nebraska, and Iowa

The CMS Rural Health Transformation Program has granted over $423 million to Louisiana, Nebraska, and Iowa to enhance rural healthcare through workforce expansion, technology, and specialized services, as part of a broader $50 billion initiative supporting all 50 states.

Key Highlights

  • Louisiana, Nebraska, and Iowa will receive a combined $424 million to strengthen rural healthcare through workforce training and retention, technology upgrades, mental health services, telehealth networks, and improved health information exchange.

  • All 50 states will receive funding from the $50 billion Rural Health Transformation Program by 2030 to improve healthcare access and infrastructure.
  • The initiative aims to address workforce shortages, update healthcare facilities, promote local care, and develop innovative care models across rural America.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has announced Rural Health Transformation Program (RHTP) funding is being granted to Louisiana, Nebraska, and Iowa, totaling more than $423.7 million to improve rural health across the three states.

These awards are in addition to the $20 million investment in rural healthcare in North Carolina announced on September 30, and part of the Rural Health Transformation Program’s $50 billion initiative. These awards come from the Working Families Tax Cuts Act.
