More than 8,500 laboratories across the globe have now been accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP), according to an announcement.

While the CAP didn’t name the 8,500th laboratory, they accredited Main Hospital Laboratory at King Salman bin Abdulaziz Medical City (KSAMC) in Madinah, Saudi Arabia, on August 6, stating in a press release that they joined more than 8,000 laboratories accredited by CAP.

The CAP’s Laboratory Accreditation Program has been around for more than 50 years. While the program has changed since its start, evolving with the clinical laboratory field, their goal remains the same: to help “laboratories improve quality, reduce risk, and strengthen patient care through rigorous inspections conducted by practicing laboratory professionals.”
