Is the public losing faith in the CDC?

Oct. 15, 2025

A recent investigation conducted by KFF sought to find out if and how the public’s opinion of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has changed. Findings from the poll were reported on by CIDRAP.

Among the results, KFF found that the public’s confidence in the CDC has dropped to “its lowest level since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Other key findings:

  • 18% of the poll participants reported having "a great deal" of trust in the agency when it comes to providing “reliable vaccine information,” down from 2023 numbers.
  • Over half of participants said they trust the American Medical Association for vaccine information. CIDRAP noted that this organization was “removed from federal vaccine working groups this year.”
  • 59% of those who took the poll said they do not approve of how Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr is doing his job.
  • Less than half of participants support the “Make America Healthy Again” campaign, with 74% of them being Republican.
  • Most parents do not approve of removing school vaccine mandates.
