The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) will launch a collaborative Nutrition Regulatory Science Program to combat diet-related chronic diseases, according to an announcement.
The program is part of the Make America Healthy Again campaign. The agencies intend to figure out how detrimental ultra-processed foods and food additives are to people’s health. They hope to also learn what “the role of maternal and infant dietary exposures on health outcomes across the lifespan, including autoimmune diseases” is.
The agencies will use their findings “to inform effective food and nutrition policy actions to help make Americans’ food and diets healthier.”
