20 attorneys general, led by New York Attorney General Letitia James, have filed a lawsuit against the Trump Administration for their handling of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).
The attorneys general call the Administration’s dismantling and restructuring unconstitutional and “reckless, irrational, and dangerous.” They claim that states don’t have the government support “to face mounting health crises.” They “argue that Secretary Kennedy and the Trump administration have robbed HHS of the resources necessary to effectively serve the American people and will be asking the court to halt the dismantling before even more lives are put at risk.”
The coalition claims the changes to HHS have affected:
· Access to essential programs for children and low-income families
· Mental health and addiction resources
· Maternal health and HIV/AIDS advances
· Disability resources
· The World Trade Center Health Program (WTCHP)
· Infectious disease monitoring
