United States overdose deaths declining

CDC’s Provisional Drug Overdose Death Counts.

An update to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s Monthly Provisional Drug Overdose Death Counts shows that drug overdose deaths in the United States have been declining.

According to the new data, overdose deaths dropped 10% from April 2023 to April 2024.

In August of 2023, in celebration of Overdose Awareness Day, the CDC awarded $279 million to 49 states, the District of Columbia, and 40 local health departments to help stop overdoses within their communities.

Since August 2023, overdose deaths have continued to drop. 111,448 reported overdose deaths in August 2023 dropped to 97,309 in April 2024.
