The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has announced the activation of Phase 1 of the Administration for Community Living’s (ACL) Caregiver AI Prize Competition. The challenge will explore innovative ways to utilize artificial intelligence (AI) to aid caregivers.

The goal of this action is to navigate ethical AI use and take some burden off caregivers. The result should be a set of tools that enhance care. Phase 1 applications are due on July 31, 2026, and competitors will work toward $2.5 million in prize funding spanning across “as many as 20 winners.” HHS says there will be three phases total.
