A recent Mount Sinai study discovered how artificial intelligence (AI) can serve as an effective tool in emergency departments. The findings are reported in a release.
According to Mount Sinai, AI can forecast which patients will be admitted to the hospital “hours earlier than is currently possible.” Additionally, “the researchers found that combining human and machine predictions did not significantly boost accuracy, indicating that the AI system alone was a strong predictor.” The researchers tested the AI algorithm on more than one million ED visits.
The authors say this could improve ED care and limit hospital overcrowding.
