In order to meet the educational needs of experienced laboratories, the Clinical Laboratory Management Association (CLMA) has designed two new leadership programs to help develop strong leadership skills in laboratory managers. Through webinars, an in-person workshop and sessions at KnowledgeLab 2014, May 4-7, 2014, in Las Vegas, and a post-course project, participants will gain valuable skills and strategies to become even more effective leaders within their laboratories.
- Fundamentals of Laboratory Leadership is designed for laboratory leaders with three or fewer years of experience. Michael J. Hostetler from the Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management at Cornell University and Dr. Michael Astion, Division Chief of Laboratory Medicine, Seattle Children's Hospital, will help attendees develop fundamental communication, decision-making, and critical thinking skills and provide them with real-world case studies of how these skills can be applied to successfully leading a laboratory.
- Advanced Laboratory Leadership is designed to provide laboratory leaders with five or more years of experience the unique opportunity to collaborate with their peers to establish best practices in implementing and navigating through periods of significant change, such as the current challenge presented by health care reform. Leo Serrano, Corporate Director of Laboratory Services, Broward Health, and Risa M. Mish from the Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management at Cornell University will assist participants in identifying and implementing successful tactics for change management.
Attendees must register by March 31 at www.clma.org in order to be part of this year's Fundamentals of Laboratory Leadership or Advanced Laboratory Leadership cohorts. The cost of registration includes full conference access to KnowledgeLab 2014.
