Abbott introduces new LIS software to help users access data

Oct. 31, 2013

Abbott has announced the global launch of version 11 of the company’s STARLIMS software-based laboratory information management system (LIMS). The new version expands user functionality to include mobile device applications, advanced analytics, and HTML5 compatibility, enabling users to access LIMS information anywhere on any screen.

“Abbott helps laboratories organize and analyze vast amounts of data across multiple industries, and the new software enables customers to build their own apps and start up quickly,” says David Champagne, divisional vice president, Informatics Solutions, Abbott. “Clinical, industrial, and research labs can leverage the advantages of mobile devices to secure on-the-spot access to lab test results and reports.”

The STARLIMS v11 software also offers users advanced analytics capabilities with out-of-the-box dashboards that can have an immediate impact on laboratory operations by allowing labs to optimize workflow and identify bottlenecks. Viewing data from powerful visualizations provided by advanced analytics offers users insights and trends that can enhance decision making.

According to company representatives, some additional advantages offered with STARLIMS v11 LIMS software include forms that can be created by users to run system-wide on Chrome, Safari, and other browsers for tablets and smartphones; two new control libraries, one for desktop computers and another for mobile devices; and touch controls that comply with specifications for iPad and iPhone devices. Existing Extensible Forms Description Language (XFDL) forms running on Internet Explorer will continue to be the primary platform, and users can create proprietary HTML5-based forms to run on alternative browsers.
