Sysmex's mission: helping to reshape the healthcare landscape of tomorrow

Jan. 17, 2013

Sysmex America’s primary areas of expertise. Sysmex provides customers around the world with the products and solutions that enable in vitro testing of blood, urine, and cell samples as well as the data management and information systems necessary for reporting cell sample results.

Major categories of solutions provided to customers. Sysmex offers unique, scalable automation and IT solutions that provide opportunities for broad spectrum hematology laboratories to increase efficiency, from those performing testing as low as 200 CBCs to as high as 30,000+ CBCs per day. Sysmex’s decision support software for the clinical laboratory, Sysmex WAM™, complements this scale of testing by managing and standardizing clinical results across a single testing site or as an enterprise-wide solution to connect multiple testing sites or sites with multiple LIS.

Products and solutions evolve to meet changing customer needs. The mission of Sysmex is to advance healthcare. In order for us to do this, we take a strong look at our customers’ needs from a forward-looking perspective. In other words, how is the clinical laboratory going to evolve over the years to come, and what can we do to shape and support that development? In fact, it is our ability to anticipate change, coupled with our long-term stability, that enables us to provide solutions that help clinical laboratories improve their operations in response to market pressures.

A case in point is our recent FDA clearance of the Sysmex® XN-Series Automated Hematology Analyzers. The XN-Series analyzers are built on a breakthrough concept known as Silent Design®, which is a simplified system of operation and user interface based on careful study of operator interaction with instrumentation and laboratory sample processing. This design approach supports the smooth interaction between people and the XN-Series with configurable modularity for a lab’s changing workflow needs; an expanded parameter menu for a lab’s evolving clinical needs; and a reagent handling system that minimizes a lab’s storage space needs.

As a manufacturer of best-in-class analyzers, we are committed to making significant technology changes that impact clinical outcomes, efficiency, and costs so that clinical laboratories can make purchasing decisions based on a total solution strategy that encompasses manufacturer commitment before, during, and after analyzer purchase.

Sysmex offers advantages to clinical laboratories seeking hematology solutions. The design approach of the Sysmex XN-Series Automated Hematology Analyzers builds on the foundation of Sysmex analyzer reliability, a hallmark of the Sysmex brand, and is truly representative of how Sysmex is resolving current day issues in the clinical laboratory while helping to reshape the healthcare landscape of tomorrow.

For example, the Sysmex XN-Series enables laboratories to handle increased workloads without the addition of lab space. Simplified processes make analyzer operation easier, giving laboratories greater flexibility to schedule personnel without the intensive training needed to maintain proficiency on different types of analyzers. The series-wide compact design delivers a smaller footprint for increased physical productivity. Smaller reagent sizes and concentrated reagents simplify consumable inventory management. Scalable options exist for auto-validation approaches—from onboard decision rules to Sysmex WAM middleware.

All XN-Series configurations provide advanced clinical parameters, including NRBCs with every CBC, Immature Granulocytes with every Diff, RET-He within the Reticulocyte profile and an all-new fluorescent platelet channel for Immature Platelet Fraction to aid physicians in the differential diagnosis of thrombocytopenia. These advanced clinical parameters, now available to virtually any clinical laboratory regardless of size or throughput, enable physicians to potentially impact treatment guidelines, care pathways, and patient flow with the use of the parameters.

Bottom line: the Silent Design approach creates analyzers that laboratorians like to use and know they can trust based on Sysmex’s history of analyzer reliability and technology advances.

Examples of the company’s sensitivity to environmental issues, community outreach, and corporate social responsibility. As a responsible corporate citizen and member of society, Sysmex plays an active role in helping to resolve problems that impact our society and our environment today. To this end, Sysmex America participates in benevolent causes such as mentoring high school students, hosting blood drives, providing free webinars for medical technologists’ CEUs, and matching funds for employee charitable contributions. Sysmex also has sponsored programs associated with professional organizations such as AACC and ASCLS as well as non-government organizations.

Environmentally, Sysmex is committed to activities aimed at effective use of resources (including water resources) and waste reduction—all of which are part of Sysmex Corporation’s global-wide environmental action plan called Sysmex Eco-Vision 2020. Guided by this plan, Sysmex entities systematically work together to protect the environment. The company has a firm commitment to environmental considerations during early stages of the product design and development process. For example, Sysmex analyzers are purposely designed and built to use less sample, requiring less reagent and thereby reducing waste. Seventeen Sysmex reagent manufacturing plants worldwide, including Sysmex America’s facility in Mundelein, IL, are ISO 14001 certified.

All of these activities reflect our core values to our customers, employees, business partners, shareholders, and to society and are grounded within our corporate philosophy known as the Sysmex Way.
