WHO introduces a new global roadmap to target hypertension in pregnancy

This collaborative global strategy aims to enhance access to reliable diagnostics, innovative treatments, and education to reduce maternal mortality caused by pregnancy-related hypertension.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has published a new global roadmap to address hypertensive disorders of pregnancy and the slow progress towards preventing deaths from them.

Women across several countries still don’t have access to reliable testing and treatment. The document, “Global roadmap for hypertensive disorders of pregnancy from 2026 to 2035 and beyond,” is a collaborative effort between WHO and its partners and stakeholders. It was unveiled at the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine Global Conference and reveals opportunities and guidance for collaboration across research, innovation, reliable testing and treatment access, education, implementation, preventative measures, and more.

The goal of the roadmap is to help ensure more women survive pregnancy and childbirth.
