CDC publishes U.S. kindergarten vaccination trends

The CDC's latest data shows a minimal 0.1% decrease in vaccination coverage among U.S. kindergarteners for the 2025-2026 school year, maintaining high immunization levels nationwide.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has published new data regarding vaccination coverage among U.S. kindergarteners.

Compared to the 2024-2025 school year, vaccination coverage for kindergarteners only declined by 0.1% for the 2025-2026 school year. Additional key findings for 2025-2026:

  • 92.4% of kindergarteners received the MMR and polio vaccines.
  • 92% received DTP, DTaP, or DT.
  • 93.4% had one dose of the varicella vaccine or disease history, while 92.2% received two doses, and 92.3% were up to date or had disease history.
  • 94% were protected against hepatitis B.
  • 0.1% more kindergarteners received two doses of the varicella vaccine or had disease history compared to the 2024-2025 school year.
  • There was a 0.6% increase in kindergarteners who were exempt for one or more vaccines during the 2025-2026 school year compared to 2024-2025.
  • States like California, Mississippi, West Virginia, Maryland, New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Maine all had high MMR vaccine coverage.
  • West Virginia had the highest kindergarten MMR vaccine coverage at 98.9%.
