COVID-19 and viral reactivation: Insights from recent study
New research published in Nature sheds light on viral reactivation during COVID-19, finding that Herpesviridae and Anelloviridae reactivation was common among hospitalized patients and that Anelloviridae was associated with long COVID.
A study recently published in Nature examined COVID-19 and chronic virus reactivation. While the infection has been proven to reactivate Epstein–Barr virus and cytomegalovirus, much remains unknown about viral reactivation in COVID-19.
More than 1,150 hospitalized COVID-19 patients participated in the study. Key findings:
Many patients experienced reactivation of Herpesviridae and Anelloviridae during acute COVID-19.
oDistinct temporal dynamics were observed for different viruses.
