The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has published an update on the current outbreak of Cyclospora in the United States. Six additional states have reported cases, bringing the total number of states experiencing outbreak to 15.

There have now been more than 6,000 confirmed cases related to the current outbreak, a far jump from the 1,645 confirmed domestic cases of cyclosporiasis reported in a CDC health advisory on July 14. At that point, cases were already more than six times what they were at that time last year.

As of August 5, 278 people have been hospitalized from the iceberg lettuce Cyclospora outbreak, and two patients have died.

At this point in time, the recalled lettuce should be past its best-by date. The CDC outbreak page is updated regularly and contains recommendations for patients and healthcare providers.
