An outbreak of Listeria has been reported in Maryland, New York, and Virginia, linked to recalled soft ricotta cheese, leading to hospitalizations and prompting public health advisories.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has published a warning regarding a current outbreak of Listeria.
The CDC attributes the outbreak to recalled requesón/soft ricotta cheeses from Clover Hill Dairy. The outbreak has impacted three states so far: Maryland, New York, and Virginia. One patient has died, while the other seven individuals who have gotten sick have been hospitalized.
The CDC urges the public, particularly pregnant women and those that are older and/or immunocompromised, to not eat recalled foods. They also suggest cleaning any surface or object that might have touched contaminated foods.
