Recently published research from University Hospitals Connor Whole Health is addressing long COVID in children. Key findings from the two-year study are reported in a press release by Carly Belsterling.

The investigation of more than 200 pediatric long COVID patients took place from 2021, after the Pediatric COVID Recovery Clinic was opened, through June 2023. Participants were surveyed about how their symptoms impacted their quality of life. They also received care at this time, according to Belsterling. “Clinicians attempted to correct modifiable nutritional or lifestyle imbalances using various integrative medicine approaches.”

The authors discovered that pediatric long COVID symptoms are comparable, and sometimes worse, than symptoms from other chronic illnesses. They hope the information uncovered by their analysis will bring awareness to the condition and aid healthcare providers with treatment pathways. They concluded, “Future research among more diverse populations is needed to evaluate outcomes of this integrative care.”

The study is published in Open Forum Infectious Diseases.
