The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced in a press release that their Office on Women’s Health (OWH) has developed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with all of the American Urological Association (AUA) with the goal of enhancing women’s health.

Particularly, the collaboration will focus on using estrogen therapy to treat genitourinary syndrome of menopause (GSM) and recurrent urinary tract infections (UTIs) in postmenopausal women. The two organizations will work together and share resources to aid these women and their healthcare providers.

Treating these conditions could lower antibiotic resistance in these patients and decrease hospital visits and risk of developing urosepsis. According to HHS, the partnership will last at least one year, but could last up to five years and will focus on educating clinicians and patients.
