A recent Keck Medicine of USC study identified the highest death risk factors for those with metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD). The findings are reported in a press release.
MASLD is classified as “the most common chronic liver disease in the world,” according to Keck Medicine. Of the MASLD-associated conditions, the researchers discovered which put patients at the most risk of death:
- High blood pressure by 40%
- Pre-diabetes or Type 2 diabetes by 25%
- Low HDL by 15%
Patient demographics did not have any impact on risk factors, but obesity did raise a patient’s risk of dying from MASLD. Additionally, “the risk of death in MASLD patients increased by 15% for each additional cardiometabolic risk factor present.”
