An extension of The Dementia Care Study has been published in JAMA. The results are summarized in a UCLA press release.
The new study investigated how satisfied dementia caregivers are with certain care techniques. The studied approaches were “a health system-based program, a community-based program, and usual care.” Key findings:
- Similar results were observed between the groups regarding the strain on caregivers and the “positive aspects of caregiving.”
- Similar patient outcomes were observed between the health system and community groups.
- Caregivers were the most satisfied with the health system and community-based programs.
- Caregivers were happiest with the community-based program, and care quality was ranked highest in this group.
