The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced a Salmonella outbreak on May 5. Currently, nobody has been hospitalized or died.
No recalls have been announced and the CDC attributes the outbreak to backyard poultry. There have been seven confirmed cases across six U.S. states. Each patient had prior contact with backyard poultry.
The CDC warns people that backyard poultry “can carry Salmonella germs even if they look healthy and clean.” They recommend hand washing after coming into contact with them or their environment and anything in it. The CDC posted additional recommendations on their website.
