The University of Chicago Medicine is reducing the wait patients undergo for their breast cancer biopsy results, according to an announcement. Certain patients can now receive breast and lymph node biopsies the same day as their mammogram.
Part of a new health initiative, BIOSPY NOW, patients who show concerning results on their mammograms and ultrasounds are able to receive a biopsy that day. They are also scheduled to “meet with a breast cancer surgeon and the surgery team, sometimes on the same day.”
Additionally, BIOPSY NOW has simplified the test ordering process for physicians. “A breast radiologist, for instance, may proceed with additional tests by placing orders themselves.”
The goal of this initiative is to ease some of the stress on these patients and provide them with faster treatment.
