Sept. 5, 2025

In observation of Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, an expert from Houston Methodist, Dr. Pedro T. Ramirez, has answered some FAQs about the disease in a press release. The goal of this action is to help increase understanding of this cancer.

Some of the information provided includes:

  • Incidence and mortality rates, emphasizing that even though the percentage of new cases is small compared to other cancers, “ovarian cancer is the fifth leading cause of cancer-related death among women.”
  • Who is most at risk for developing cancer.
  • A list of ovarian cancer symptoms.
  • Why some cases can be missed.
  • Breakthroughs in treatment and survival.

Houston Methodist said, “Ovarian cancer remains a formidable challenge in women’s health, but as Ramirez emphasizes, awareness, early recognition of symptoms, and access to evolving treatment options are key to improving outcomes.”
