Siemens Healthineers receives FDA clearance for POCT mobile computer

Dec. 11, 2020

Siemens Healthineers announced that it has received 510(k) clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), as well as CE Mark approval, for the epoc NXS Host mobile computer for point-of-care (POC) testing, according to a press release.

The epoc Blood Analysis System with the new epoc NXS Host is a hand-held device powered by Android. Caregivers benefit from an intuitive, workflow-driven user interface and are prompted through the testing procedure with audio and visual guidance.

The epoc Blood Analysis System simplifies and streamlines the blood gas testing process and inventory management with a single, room temperature barcoded test card, the company said. The system, designed to be used at a patient’s bedside, has a comprehensive critical care menu consisting of blood gases and a basic metabolic panel along with hematocrit and lactate.

Test results from the epoc Blood Analysis System are delivered to the LIS/HIS via a secure, wireless connection for seamless integration into hospital networks with the Siemens Healthineers Point of Care Ecosystem.
