Director, Quality Assurance, Laboratory

Position Summary:
The Director, Quality Assurance, Laboratory is responsible for the operation of the laboratory in accordance with established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act of 1988 (CLIA), and applicable company policies, procedures and quality initiatives. The Quality Assurance Director performs quality assurance activities of the laboratory by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.
Responsibilities:
- Immediately communicates concerns identified in the testing process to the laboratory Quality Assurance Management to ensure that questionable test results are not released.
- Reviews testing, quality control, and other testing reports for accuracy, completeness and compliance.
- Participates in audits of laboratory operations, documents audit findings and reports results to VP Lab Operations.
- Assists with hosting/coordinating FDA, OSHA, CLIA, CAP, and other inspections as necessary.
- Maintains familiarity with laboratory operating and quality assurance/quality control procedures and quality system regulations and standards in order to effectively perform laboratory quality assurance functions.
- Assists with and/or advises on laboratory procedure development and implementation as requested or necessary.
- Reviews, tracks and communicates information regarding process variations and quality control samples as required by laboratory quality assurance procedures.
- Maintains current and accurate records of all relevant communications, audits, corrective action plans, and effectiveness monitoring.
- Performs duties of Laboratory Compliance Quality Improvement-Assurance and Risk Management Director.
Requirements:
- BS required with 5 to 7 years of experience in a laboratory environment.
- Excellent Communication Skills
- Ability to work in a demanding environment and handle multiple priorities
- Experience with FDA, OSHA, CLIA, CAP and other regulatory authorities

Phlebotomy Instructor
Full-Time Non-Tenure Track Position
Clark College is seeking applicants for a full-time non-tenure track Phlebotomy Instructor position to provide instruction in Phlebotomy, lab procedures for the medical office, as well as interdisciplinary and general courses that support specific programs and Allied Health beginning winter quarter, January 3, 2011. This is temporary position with the possibility on continuing on a year-by-year basis.
General Faculty Responsibilities
- Instruct classes utilizing techniques and knowledge of the discipline that facilitate student learning.
- Advise students in educational and/or career development.
- Participate in decision-making processes by taking part in department and college committees.
- Collaborate with colleagues and contribute to the work of the department.
- Pursue professional development to stay current in field.
- Strive to enhance teaching and learning techniques.
Minimum Qualifications
- Two years of experience as an MT/CLS/MLT or Registered Nurse.
- Teaching experience in an education or business environment.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology and a basic understanding of the function of chemistry, microbiology, blood bank and coagulation departments along with current skills in venipuncture and capillary collection, per CLSI.
- CPR and Basic First Aid certified.
- Sensitivity to and understanding of teaching students from diverse backgrounds including differences in culture, socioeconomic, gender, age, ability, sexual orientation, and ethnicity.
Desirable Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- On-line or distance education teaching experience.
- Knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Experience in competency based curriculum development and assessment.
- Ability to develop a collaborative relationship within the community and clinic sites.
Salary
$46,621 for a 173-day contract. Additional compensation is available for summer and moonlight teaching, and doctoral and vocational stipends. Start date is winter quarter, January 3, 2011.

This individual functions as a team leader in the laboratory, in addition to routine lab test performance duties. Primary focus is on laboratories designated as moderate complexity by CLIA (Clinical Lab Improvement Act). Responsible for day-to-day staffing needs, testing, problem resolution, and orientation of new staff within center. Facilitates lab meetings in conjunction with Regional Manager or Regional Lab Operations Manager. Perform in-vitro analysis of biologic specimens according to the procedures established for the Laboratory. Also participates in the supportive functions of quality control, instrument operation, phlebotomy/specimen processing, routine troubleshooting and problem resolution.
Qualified candidates will have an Associate’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or equivalent (i.e., Military trained – Medical Lab Specialist certificate of training obtained prior to April 24, 1995). Certification by a nationally recognized certifying agency. An acceptable Department of Motor Vehicle record is required along with a valid drivers license. Current knowledge of laboratory procedures and equipment expected. Minimum of two years’ experience, preferably rotated through all areas of a clinical laboratory. Experience with Laboratory Information Systems is beneficial.
