Specimen Transfer

Specimen-tracking system uses RFID

Specimen-tracking system uses RFID >> Ambient ID LabTrack is an item-level track-and-trace system combining advanced radio frequency identification (RFID) technology and proven data-gathering and data-analysis capabilities to help control laboratory and hospital costs, reduce errors and risk, and ensure patient safety. The tags are attached to sample containers or embedded into traditional label stock. This allows each sample to be tracked and uniquely identified at the item level. The system tracks and reports on every specimen — where it is, who handled it, how long it was there, where it went — for unprecedented visibility into lab operations. The healthcare-quality tags have been developed to withstand temperature extremes, chemicals, liquids, and microwaves. The diagnostic-lab specimen tracking comes with self-contained wireless communications, RFID tags, RFID readers, and software.

Insulator maintains specimen integrity in transit

Therapak ConstanTemp keeps frozen specimens frozen, refrigerated specimens cool, and ambient specimens at room temperature. Frozen specimens can be maintained for more than four hours in 105°F temperatures. Originally designed to maintain clinical study specimens at room temperatures, it has since been expanded for use with refrigerated and frozen specimens in all laboratory/courier fields.  Its compact design and insulating features make it ideal for use in lock boxes, courier totes, or shippers without cross-temperature issues.

Automated handling of frozen samples

The Datamatrix Cryo Rack allows simultaneous scanning of up to 48 Cryo.s tubes via openings in the base using a flatbed scanner, so data on the origin, type, and age of samples can be saved and processed automatically. Each frozen sample is given a unique, machine-readable identity linked to sample-related information in a database. The code is written into the plastic base of the vials using a laser. The codes enable durable and reliable sample labeling, as they are resistant to mechanical stresses, low storage temperatures, and most solvents. An automatic error-correction algorithm, which even makes partly damaged codes readable again, provides extra data reliability.

Micro bag for small-tissue processing

The Stomacher 80 microBag is designed for use in the Stomacher 80 microBiomaster to prepare and process biological samples at volumes as low as 250 µL to 5 mL. The key to this product’s microprocessing capabilities is its “V” shape, which enables it to be processed by a single paddle in the Stomacher machine. This enables the choice of diluent-free sample processing, while ensuring a completely homogenized sample with maximal cell recovery. The V shape also ensures the successful recovery of every drop of the processed sample. The sample can be pulled down to the tip of the V between thumb and forefinger for pipette-assisted extraction.

Ergonomic multichannel pipettes

The Ovation Multichannel Pipette line includes four 12-channel models for precision liquid dispensing from 0.5 μL to 850 μL. Four eight-channel models cover pipetting needs from 0.5 µL to 1,250 µL. The user can select pipette, reverse pipette, mix, multiple dispense, or serial dilute liquid-handling functions with a single keystroke. A PACE function enables automatic repetitive dispensing without additional finger action. Three user-defined settings can be stored to minimizing the need for set-up each time the pipette is used.

Ergonomic electronic pipettes

For consistent, full control over the pipetting process, Eppendorf Xplorer pipettes offer precisely adjustable parameters, maximum reproducible results, and fatigue-free work. Ergonomic handling is enabled with a perfect balance and a finger rest to ensure a position that is easy on users’ joints. With electronic piston stroke, low weight, and intuitive user guidance, these pipettes minimize user strain. The basic functions can be easily chosen using a selection wheel. An intuitive operating concept means the aspirating and dispensing rocker uses the “up is up and down is down” principle. The devices operate in a variety of languages.

Compact, sealed cell culture device

Unlike conventional culture devices, the PetakaG3 Cell Culture Device is virtually hermetically enclosed — with no caps or openings — effectively eliminating contamination, spills, and leaks. A resealable access port keeps the interior of the device hermetic to exterior elements. Combined with a gas-transfer quenching system and filtered exit vent, this permits safe and easy one-step access or retrieval. The device requires no additional CO2 and no additional humidity. Live cells can be handled safely and shipped in the device without freezing and dry ice. Its slim profile allows labs to realize up to 15 times more cell-culture surface per incubator.
